Steam and Office used to let you put stuff there but now they don't. Is this real? Haven't tried it myself. Does that mean I can no longer run Steam with my games on a bigger hard drive instead of the main one like before?

It seems Steam doesn't have this problem for sure, but there are some places where it works better. For instance, if you click and run an Office file, it usually opens in C: instead of the proper folder. But Microsoft has a tool called Office Deployment Tool that lets you fix this by changing where it opens to the right place.

You don't have any reason to pick a different place for your software, and even though it sounds like you could just put things in another folder, Windows will still think everything is on the big hard drive named C:.

It seems Steam doesn't have that feature right now. If you use the "Click and Run" tool, it only changes to C:. But if you use the Office Deployment Tool, you can change where files go. You can find more info at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download...x?id=49117

I know that Steam trick doesn't work, even though I've been doing it lately.

Thanks everyone. I checked again with another IT person, and it looks like that stuff was wrong. I don't know why one guy told me that. Maybe he got it wrong when he said something. Sorry about messing up your time.

Is someone from the IT department here? That's not correct for Steam. Just a few moments ago, when I checked my Steam app, the places where games are saved were set to "D" and "I." But for Office apps, that all depends on what you get them from.
