I recently removed Halo MCC from Steam to make more room on my hard drive. Before I started, there was about 120 GB free space left over. But after uninstalling through Steam, I only have 58 GB of free space left. After digging around the internet and reading a lot of old posts, I found out that something weird happened inside Windows. There is an invisible file called "050FBB4D-16E5-42A8-945A-963D007974AA" (which has four types: File/.xct/.xvi/.xvs) sitting in a special folder. This one specific file is taking up 134 GB of space, and it is related to Halo MCC. I managed to get into that folder while my computer was in Safe Mode and deleted its contents. It worked perfectly for now! But when I turned the computer back on normally, those files came right back out. Also, if you look at Programs & features, Halo MCC shows up again sometimes with a total size of 128 GB. Even though I try to uninstall it every single time, it keeps coming back no matter what I do. This is probably because of the MSIXVC folder problem mentioned earlier. I am very confused about what else I can try. I've tried many different ways to delete those files, but none of them has worked yet. That's really bad news for me, since my laptop only has a 500 GB SSD and that 134 GB is actually important value to me. I would really appreciate any advice you could give!
Do you mean the files come back even when the laptop isn't on the internet, like they are never being downloaded again? My best way to handle Windows file limits is to start up a USB stick with Linux and use that file manager to delete what I need. Just remember not to make any extra Trash folders.
I found a cool trick: When I try to delete some files on Windows, it says I can't because they are being run by the System. But if I stop these two services—GamingServices and GamingServicesNet—I can actually delete them easily, and they stay gone until those services start up again.
I think these apps come from the Microsoft Store. You can find them in a special folder called "Microsoft.GamingServices_3.60.12001.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" inside WindowsApps too.
