Hey! I got a GT 710 that has 1GB of memory and supports GDDR5. But since there are no fans attached to it, just a heatsink, how much hotter can I get before it breaks down or gets too hot to play?

Make sure your temps are under 80 in MSI Afterburner. That's plenty for overclocking. It makes more sense to save cash on buying a new graphics card rather than paying for an old one like the GT710.

Look at your temps in the MSI Afterburner app. Anything under 80 is fine if you are trying to boost the CPU. It's smarter to put those extra bucks toward a new graphics card instead of buying an old one like the GT710.

I don't want to spend too much on the GT710 because it is really weak. My birthday is coming up soon, so I'm going to upgrade my CPU from an i5-6500 to an i7-8700K and buy a better power supply. Then I'll get a used GTX 1060 or something similar for the graphics card.
