While checking the Internet Status, it was consuming data. I cleared the data usage in Internet Status after my internet speed was restored; it showed 1MB. Then I played a 480P video for 45 seconds, using 9MB. After a brief pause, nothing happened—no loading or downloading occurred. Even without extensions, except adblock, the issue persisted. After a few seconds, I accessed the usage page and it jumped to 197MB. It continued to consume data even when idle, surpassing 300MB, then reset back to 197MB and kept increasing. This confirms to me that this isn't just an interface problem—it's actual data usage.

Log in with your Google account? Is the background processing enabled? Consider using incognito mode? Run a malware scan on your system?

When Chrome appears to be inactive, launch its Task Manager (three dots in the top-right corner -> More Tools) and examine the "Network" section. This will reveal any tabs or extensions consuming your data.
