Good temps for my CPU and GPU?
Good temps for my CPU and GPU?
Here’s what I have: I own a decent gaming laptop that’s been in use for about 6 to 8 months. Lately I’ve paid more attention to CPU and GPU temperatures and want to ensure they’re not too high. I’d rather be reassured I’m just overthinking than told my hardware is overheating. My setup includes an Intel Core i7-6700 HQ at 2.600Hz and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. I’m curious about the optimal temperatures when not gaming but running light apps like Chrome or Steam, as well as during extended gaming sessions with higher settings. Additionally, if my processors start getting warm, what’s the best method to cool them down effectively?

I think anything under 90 degrees Celsius for the GPU is fine. For the CPU, as long as you keep it below 85 degrees Celsius, you should be all right. That gives me some peace of mind. I used to get really anxious if either processor reached around 75 degrees and one hit 80—usually I’d pause what I was doing, probably stopping a game. It’s pretty wild when I’m playing games and pushing hard, like last night in the Warframe main menu (intense graphics, maxed out) where my GPU was at 80. But during my Overwatch tournament with friends for over two hours, I only saw a max of about 55-60...
I’ve also been thinking lately about how my laptop desk changes depending on whether I’m at home or not. Does the desk material affect the temperature? It seems like the average temps are lower when I’m using a wood desk compared to a glass one. Part of me is starting to think I might be overreacting, but it’s funny xD
Thanks a lot for your help so far! That really eases my worries about the temperatures.

That eases a bit of pressure on my back, so I don’t have to worry as much about the temperatures now.
