I own an EVGA Gold 850 PSU.
I recently updated all components, including the chipset, storage, and network drivers, and even refreshed my BIOS (which required about two hours). That BIOS was outdated for two years.
My PC is still problematic—it keeps freezing or stuttering constantly, even when scrolling to read this message. Watching it freeze intensifies the issue, making it hard to play any game.
Now it takes 10–15 minutes to boot after the AORUS screen appears.
I can’t pinpoint the exact BIOS version needed to restore it, as the clean Windows install took about an hour and it’s the latest release.
It was installed from scratch.
The only option left is a BIOS hard reset, though I’m unsure because this process is quite new to me. I’ll attempt it now.
*Note*: I finished the reset, but nothing changed.
According to Geofelt, I’m running BIOS version F31 dated August 14, 2024.

The BIOS hard reset and updates seem unlikely to be the issue. This could also influence startup times, especially since you've been waiting on the boot screen for a while. You might want to consider using a different CPU or RAM to test if performance improves. Also, avoiding high-priority applications may help as there are no other processes running.

If you are going to post, post DETAILS, not generalizations. Because that's what that is. "EVGA Gold 850" literally means NOTHING, at all. EVGA has MANY "Gold" power supplies, that are complete fracking junk. And many that are really good, although, the ones that are good are mostly older models. Since slinking away from Super Flower, CWT and Seasonic, as builders of their units, and mostly Super Flower, they haven't had much lately EXCEPT the G6 and G7 series, that has been ANY good AT ALL. So, if you're going to post something related and specific to the PSU model, it would be REALLY prudent to POST the PSU model, because, even within the same series, some models are trash while others are ok or good. Let's be clear, not ambiguous.
Sorry, bad day, didn't mean to get "on" you, and actually thought that was somebody else chiming in. Let me rephrase. PLEASE, give us the ACTUAL model, because it makes a world of difference sometimes. There are MANY times when the 650w version is fine, or the 750w version is fine, but the 850w or the 650w, or the 550w, is not. So it REALLY matters. And if we can eliminate that as a PROBABLE cause, we can move on. And if we cannot, then you can feel better about trying to address a bad model of PSU.

Yeah, that is a solid PSU. Although there might still be some concerns, overall it’s a decent unit.
If it’s taking too long, I’d suggest first removing or disconnecting all storage devices, then restarting and checking if the issue persists. Following the steps outlined on the link provided should help you resolve the problem.

I’ll try this when I get home; I hope disconnecting all hard drives/SSDs still lets me reach the BIOS, which might speed up and point to storage issues.
A few notes: last night I checked hardware via resource monitor and saw my SSD (main drive) showing 1% -22% usage even when idle on desktop. Also, three of my seven fans aren’t working despite being connected.

It seems like the setup is becoming increasingly problematic, though other issues with the hardware can also cause similar symptoms. I suggest removing the board from the case and testing it on a counter or bench as described in my manual. Regarding the fans, check if they are three or four pin models and confirm in the BIOS that each fan header matches the correct output type—whether 3 pin DC controlled or 4 pin PWM. Updating the BIOS might adjust these settings, making it relevant even if they functioned before. If the problem persisted before the update or never occurred, then it’s a separate concern. It might also help to test each fan on one of the working headers to rule out a fan-specific issue, though it’s unlikely all three would fail simultaneously.

Thank you for the guidance. If the situation involves a fresh board, are there any especially suitable AM5 motherboards you suggest?
