Good Enough Cooler??
Good Enough Cooler??
Hi, I own a Core i7 950 and want to install water cooling. I’m considering the Corsair H50 Performance but have limited experience with it. If this isn’t enough to keep the processor cool, what’s the most affordable alternative that would work? I also have a Zalman CNPS10X air cooler, and I’d like to enable CPU overclocking since this will be used for rendering tasks.
Just install a radiator on top of a fan in front and another at the back, like this:
Now, as you are aware, there are several coolers available that fit your budget, but within this range I’d prefer a quality air cooler rather than a cooler from this line, since most of them don’t perform well. But if you’re someone who prioritizes appearance, here’s an option:
or perhaps the H50

Yes, you wouldn't experience a drop in temperatures compared to your current Zalman cooler.
Yes just mount a rad on top a fan in front and one at the back something like this:
Now, as you know there are quite some coolers out there that fit in your bufget but in a budget of this i would do with a good air cooler instead as most of the coolers on this range don't perform so well imo. But if your someone like me who is doing it for the looks get this:
or maybe the h50

I wouldn't expect a temperature drop with a H50 compared to my current Zalman cooler? Actually, you'd notice a decline in performance. It's clear the $67 H55 is outperformed by the $25 Hyper 212, not just slightly. I haven't seen a CLC cooler surpass a similarly priced air cooling option. The only advantage they have is noise level.
If you're upgrading for better overclocking, consider the Phanteks PH-TC14PE... pairing it with an aluminum radiator won't boost performance further.
