I set up a living room and need to bring friends over for some gaming on the TV. A controller setup is essential for four players using controllers. Do you have any suggestions for good controllers under $10 that work with wired connections?

It isn't necessary for splitscreen; it can be all four players viewing the same content, similar to in a duck game or lovers of a dangerous spacetime.

There are various Super Smash Bros imitations out there. I’m not sure about Brawlhalla or the Gamecube version Project M, and I don’t know if it supports four players.

crawl, rocket league, overlord: fellowship of evil if you have four more gaming-capable PCs at home, are ready to experiment a bit, and have a living room PC that can manage it, you could create four virtual machines on the living room PC, arrange them in a grid using VM Windows, and use in-home streaming to watch games playing on the other four PCs.
