I own a solid 4790k with a top speed of 4.9 GHz using a delid. It seems this chip can push up to 5 GHz with additional cooling, though it might have been priced differently due to the delid feature.

Someone who prefers a relaxed build might spend more than expected for such an upgrade. For everyday folks switching from a weaker processor, this change could actually be a drawback.

I’d also consider careful individuals as those who might dislike a pre-delidded CPU, like me. Delidding can be a bit uncertain, so I don’t feel confident enough in random people doing it perfectly, which is why I steer clear of such chips.

I see them as old vehicles. Modified? Don't care. Available? Yes.

It would require addressing the underlying issues that caused the anxiety. My CPU has been functioning well after a delay, but I only mentioned it during testing and then stopped discussing it. I’m open to any adjustments in value, but I need clarity on whether I should proceed.

This statement highlights that Haswell has a long history.

I don't think you'll take a hit, Probably have a 5$ upcharge if you sell on r/hardwareswap vs ebay.

Unless it's coming from someplace like Silicon Lottery, I would not buy a pre-delidded chip. Way too high a chance that whoever delidded it damaged the chip. There's also the whole "what is 'hitting 4.9GHz?'" thing. Maybe on your board, it's stable, but maybe you're running a voltage I'm not comfortable at. Or maybe "stable" for you means that it BSODs out once a week or so at 1.375V, whereas for me "stable" means no BSODs ever at 1.3V or below on vCore. Too many variables for me as compared to just buying a Costa Rica 4790K and knowing that I can push it to 4.8GHz stable with the lid on.

I’d look at that discussion carefully. The seller says the chip can reach 4.9ghz and has worked well for two years, but you’re upgrading to a newer model now. With your old Z87 and i5-4670k, you’re already experiencing bottlenecks. Should you invest in the $220 delidded board or go with a cheaper alternative like the Ryzen 5 3600? The community’s opinions will likely lean toward practical performance gains over pure spec chasing.

Offer it on specialized communities such as overclocking groups or to a limited audience on tech platforms. These spaces are welcoming where enthusiasts discuss and share knowledge without fear of judgment. Premium CPUs in each socket tend to retain their worth fairly well.
