I recently installed a new computer and am experiencing serious overheating issues from my i7 10700k. I used a Deepcool Castle 240EX cooler and configured the BIOS with default settings except for XMP on RAM. The default voltage is set to 1.26, but I notice spikes reaching up to 1.35 during gameplay or tasks like Cinebench. Frequently, some cores hit temperatures above 90°C while playing. Although I've changed the thermal paste to Arctic Crystal 5 with little improvement, I'm still concerned about the system's performance. If anyone has insights on this problem, please share. I'm really struggling to understand how severely the hardware is handling heat. I've also experimented with removing the front and side panels, but the issue persists—CPU temperatures remain high even without cooling.

You asked about setting the BIOS to default. Did you adjust it yourself or reset the CMOS? Since I don’t own any of these and they’re not LGA1200, there’s no reference voltage available. From what I see online for i7 10700k users, a typical O.C. is around 1.35V—not a boost voltage. CPU boost works normally, adjusting speed and power as needed. If you set a manual O.C. or use an auto tool, it may raise the boost voltage beyond the default and cause higher temps. You should also confirm your cooler is functioning properly. Check any labels on the bottom—did you peel off the sticker? Is the pump running and properly connected? Make sure the mounting pressure is correct.

Then reinsert it and turn on the PC. You don’t need to remove the battery. Do you own an air cooler or another compatible cooler that fits the slot?

Lacked any other coolers at hand. Sent my old setup to a friend before trying this new one, probably for experience. Better just live with it.

Verify if auto-overlock is enabled in the MSI (Game Boost). If not, adjust Vcore to a consistent value near 1.2.

Adjust the voltage to your preferred level and see if it improves temperature performance; this confirms the effect since Vcore plays a role.

See and there lies the second issue. No matter what I set the cpu will still pull ~1.35 at random. Ive tried to lock it at lower vcore and itll still do it. Part of me thinks im missing something on this board.
