Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 3 faces overclocking issues with BIOS locked.
Hey Guys
I bought the Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 3 Motherboard to overclock my Intel i7 6400t ES Skylake CPU. It came with F6 BIOS, but the overclocking tools were locked in the BIOS settings. I flashed it using F5g BIOS which allowed me to unlock the BCLK OC options. Still, after re-flashing with F5j and F5m, nothing changed—I’m still stuck. All the BCLK OC features remain locked.
I’m really frustrated. What should I do? How can people who own Gigabyte boards unlock these settings?
Guys, please help me out!
Ryujin Jakka shares his experience with the Z170x Gaming 3. He used an external clock generator and downloaded a modified BIOS from overclock.guide, as mentioned in his previous post. Despite this, the overclocking capabilities remain restricted to the motherboard, similar to the F6 version. He also tested later beta BIOS versions without any improvement. Users on the same motherboard have reported the same issue.
Some models with the same motherboard face the same problem:
- i5 6400T: The "T" variant uses a low-power Skylake design, offering better heat and electrical efficiency, especially for silicon-based use.
- I recommend contacting Gigabyte's headquarters to request free overclocking for your Gaming 3.
Because the motherboard includes the baseclock adjustment option, the 6400t model is not equipped with it during production. Many users work around this by using a motherboard with a separate clockgen and a modified BIOS. For accuracy, I cannot recommend a specific product, but searching for Gigabyte Z170 non K overclocked and following the Overclock.guide steps should help.

Despite this, the overclocking capabilities remain restricted to the motherboard, similar to the F6 version which came with them. Additionally, I've also experimented with later beta version BIOS files, but the outcomes were consistent. Others using the same motherboard on overclock.guide are experiencing the same issue.
