I own a Gigabyte X670 Aorus Ax motherboard equipped with Ryzen 7900x, RTX 2080 Ti, Sonnet USB PCIe card, and SATA adapter. It has been experiencing some unusual problems for several months. Initially, USB 3.0 ports stopped functioning—only the 2.0 ports remained operational. After reinstalling Windows 10, the issue reversed; suddenly the 2.0 ports ceased working entirely. To test another setup, I converted it into a Rust server and removed the RTX 2080 Ti. All USB ports then worked perfectly. When I swapped in an RTX 2060S, the 2.0 ports still didn’t respond. Removing the SATA adapter didn’t help either. It appears the PCIe X16 slot being populated is responsible for the USB 2.0 malfunction. In Device Manager, there’s a warning icon for AMD USB 2.0 eXtensible Host Controller. Anyone have suggestions on resolving this? Given the board’s age and the high shipping costs from places like Hawai'i, warranty repair seems unlikely. It doesn’t appear to be hardware failure; it seems software-related.
Set up the x16 PCIe port for the GPU to use PCIe Gen4 X8. If you're not using certain M.2 slots, consider turning them off, as the board might still assign PCIe lanes to them even if they're empty.
It includes the most recent drivers and the latest BIOS updates. I’m running Windows 10 since Windows 11 presents several usability challenges. My setup has Windows 10 installed on an Alienware laptop (bought with it) and a few other machines I use less often.
