I upgraded my Asus B450 motherboard and noticed a persistent loud coil whine from the GPU during games. After about 30 minutes, my PC would freeze or crash and stop responding. I had to reset the CMOS every time. I'm trying to boot with default settings, updated BIOS, and full-speed cooling, but nothing resolves the issue. No coil whine reported with the B450 board. My setup includes a Gigabyte X570, Aorus Pro Wifi mini, Ryzen 5 3600, Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB, 16GB RAM, and an OC Ventus RTX2060. I've added fans, a riser cable for the GPU, and moved my Samsung 970 EVO Plus to the secondary slot. Temperatures dropped by around 30°C, but the Samsung drive stayed very hot (over 100°C) during gaming. My system temps were around 40°C, CPU 55°C, and chipset 75°C. Is this normal? Or could there be a faulty drive? Everything seems to be cooling properly.

The attached file shows idle readings, so overheating seems likely. What's interesting is you can't just ignore it—except maybe by getting a riser cable and doing some adjustments.
I reduced the heat by installing fans, a riser cable for the GPU, and moved my Samsung 970 EVO Plus to the secondary drive. Temperatures fell by nearly 30°C, but the Samsung unit stayed above 100°C during gaming. (79°C is quite low; gaming usually hits 100°C). It seems the drive might be in the secondary slot at very high temps, or it could be a faulty disk. The system is well-cooled—CPU 40°C, system 55°C, chipset 75°C.
Is there any heating inside the NVMe? I'm testing this from memory while under the influence, so keep it in mind. When you put it in the second slot, it switches to using the chipset instead of the CPU, which usually means slower theoretical speeds (assuming it matches other Gigabyte 570 models). The real concern is whether this impacts performance in practice or not. I don’t recall if the NVMe is overheating or reaching its limits. Also, temperatures around 100°C are quite high and could cause throttling, which is generally undesirable.
Active cooling is working on the front side, yet the SSD still causes temperatures to rise significantly. I'm experiencing 80°C idle, but it seems the issue isn't limited to overheating. Could there be another factor at play?
The second type of form factor is M.2 NVMe, which serves as a quicker path for data movement. Both involve SSDs, with the first being the traditional 2.5-inch SATA form factor and the second being the M.2 SSD design. There are also SATA M.2 SSDs that support SATA speeds within the M.2 category.
