Hey everyone, I’ve been noticing some really high temperatures on my Gigabyte RX 5700 XT during gaming. The HDG stayed around 80-85°C and the JUNC reached about 110°C consistently while playing. Since it’s been over three years and my warranty is gone, I replaced the thermal paste and pads with 0.5mm and 1mm thickness (Gelid Extreme). The GPU still ran hot, but it never hit the 110°C mark. Now the HDG temps have dropped a bit to around 80°C, but the JUNC temperatures remain high at 110°C. I’m seeing FPS drops in games like Halo Infinite and Anno, but not as much as before. I thought the official specs said 0.5mm and 1mm, but online sources suggest those values. After checking, it seems the new pads are doing a good job of contacting the GPU. The paste spread well, filling the die nicely with an X-pattern. I’m still puzzled about why the JUNC stays so high. There’s one spot on the die that I couldn’t clean no matter what I did—could that be the issue?

What additional specifications are there? Which case or chassis are you using? A colleague has a similar setup. The junction temperature rises during idle or with auto fan speed. Changing the thermal paste and pads is a solid first step. Then consider lowering the voltage—Gigabyte lists the standard as 1200mV, but you can reduce it to around 1150mV or 1175mV. Another option is adjusting the fan curve; stock settings favor low speed and quiet operation instead of optimal cooling. You can configure both voltage and fan curve using AMD Adrenalin, saving the changes there. The surface scratches are normal—they’re not the actual die but a protective coating.

Ryzen 5 3600 with stock setup and Scythe Ninja 5 cooler MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Fractal Design Meshifty C Kingston HyperX Predator HX432C16PB3K2/16 Corsair TX550M is running at 1TB SSD with Intel 660p. It's stable at 2000MHz/1107mV. VRAM operates at 1830MHz, showing minor artifacts around 1850MHz. Energy limit was adjusted up by 50%. Fan speed is capped at 50% maximum. With these settings, the HDD stays under 80°C consistently. However, JNC remains at 110°C throughout. FPS gains are minimal—around 50-60 for games like Anno 1800, BF V, or Halo Infinite. Raising fan speed beyond 50% doesn't help. HDD temperature drops by 2-3°C, but JNC stays high at 110°C.
