I recently encountered a situation from a couple of years ago when I purchased a Medion machine equipped with a Gigabyte B660M motherboard and an Intel 12440 & 3060ti GPU. The system's Cinebench R23 scores were consistently around mid-5500s, which didn’t meet my expectations. I was hoping to upgrade the BIOS from Medion promptly. Since the machine wasn’t intended for heavy gaming, it didn’t affect my primary work tasks. Medion hasn’t released any BIOS updates since January 2022 (the original version), so I decided to attempt a flash back to Gigabyte despite it being an OEM motherboard. Gigabyte has provided 15 updates since the initial stock release. Using QFlash through the BIOS screen didn’t succeed due to an OEM mismatch, but I managed to flash directly from the motherboard using QFlash+ and bypassed the mismatch. After updating drivers, I reran Cinebench R23 and achieved a score of 11249, showing significant improvement. While 12th generation CPUs differ in voltage stability compared to 13th and 14th gen models on 660 and 760 MBs, some cases still experience performance drops due to throttling. I wanted to share this experience to offer guidance, but remember to proceed with BIOS updates at your own risk.
