Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 without VGA (hardware)
Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 without VGA (hardware)
I am assembling a new server using a Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 paired with an EPYC 7402P. The configuration is facing these issues: - No VGA output. - BCM Remote Console displays "Powered Off" and "No Signal". - BMC Eventlog shows an unknown sensor: bios_post_progress logged a bios stating "System Firmware Error (POST error)(No video device detected)" with all LEDs on the board illuminated and CPLD_LED flashing green. After checking every possible fix, I returned the board to the seller, but upon receiving a replacement, the same problem persisted. It seems reasonable to suspect the CPU, memory, or power supply might be the cause. True... but... a. The EPYC 7402P is officially whitelisted and detected in the BMC inventory b. The KSM32RD4/32MEI is also whitelisted and appears in the BMC inventory c. PSU: I tested two different PSUs, both Coolermaster ones are important. The key finding is: c. The keyboard numlock and caps lock function after a short while, and even with CTR-ALT-DELETE, d. When placing a bootable USB drive, it seems to boot from the drive (HDD LED). So... I believe the issue lies in the POST/BIOS setup. Questions: 1. Is it typical for all LEDs on the board to stay lit and the CPLD to pulse green? 2. Since the CPLD is upgradable, does that matter? 3. What options do I have now? Things I've already tried: - Swapped motherboard - Cleared CMOS via board pins - Removed battery or shorted pins - Used different memory (32GB, 256GB, none) - Updated BMC firmware to 12.44.04 - Updated BIOS to R19_F02 - Added a nVidia Quatro 4000 graphics card. Despite no VGA, it seems expected given Gigabyte's slow response. Thanks. Mark
I discovered the issue only when a monitor cable was linked during POST/BIOS. After turning on the VGA cable post-POST/BIOS (numlock illuminated), I received VGA output and everything functioned properly, including the BMC remote console. This suggests a BMC firmware problem (version 12.44.04). Possible situations:
a. Power on with VGA connected → NO output.
b. BMC Remote shows "Powered Off" and "No Signal".
c. Eventlog records an unknown bios sensor logging a system firmware error.
b. Power on or reboot without the monitor cable → VGA appears only after POST/Bios.
d. BMC Remote works fine, no errors.
e. Reboot with cable connected after scenario B → same outcome.
LEDs appear to work as described.
