Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 w/ 6600K
I own a Cooler Master D92 cooler, which previous users said could easily push my 6600K up to 4ghz. I'm planning to try overclocking my 6600K on this motherboard. Although it's not the best setup for overclocking, I just want to extract any additional performance possible. I can send pictures if needed. Thanks in advance.
The motherboard you have isn't compatible with CPU overclocking.
Your motherboard doesn't allow CPU overclocking. Is the information on that site accurate? The article you shared seems to suggest otherwise.
Hasn't encountered any H170 support for overclocking since its initial launch, and that feature seems to have vanished. This is the same inquiry previously asked here.
It seems fine but I haven't read a review of it yet. Check some reviews first. Also, is it worth spending that much for overclocking when you already have a functional setup? Have you reached your CPU's limits? An extra 10-15% might not be noticeable if you're not pushing it to the maximum.
To be precise, I engage in a lot of emulation. Emulation relies heavily on single-core performance. For instance, Cemu, a Wii-U emulator, exhibited significant stutter even on a 6-core desktop i7. However, when run on another 6-core i7 that was overclocked to 4ghz, the stutter disappeared entirely.
It's useful when considering specific scenarios. Sometimes individuals assume an original character can significantly improve performance, even if the CPU isn't the main constraint.
Yeah, I wasn't originally planning on overclocking (obviously) because my Core 2 Quad lasted me like 8 years before I decided I needed to step up, so I trust Intel will last a while. My other specs are 16gb of RAM and a 1070, as good as this processor is, I think it still bottlenecks just a little bit.
