I was considering purchasing this spec: I3 12100 Msi B660M A pro Adata 8x2 3200 Rtx 3060 500gb PNY cs2140 ssd nvme 500gb hdd seagate Cx650m corsair bronze. It turns out the seller is out of stock for the Msi B660M A pro, so I’m curious about which motherboard to pick. Gigabyte is my go-to suggestion, while MSI B660M is the seller’s recommendation.

The budget b660 motherboards have constraints that may hinder faster processors, especially if you plan to upgrade later. The 12100 model works well, but upgrading to 12400 or 12600 still causes issues with performance. These budget boards limit CPU power to around 125 watts, so a high-end 12600K might only run at 150W for short bursts, reducing overall speed. In the video at 21:30, they showed how the Gigabyte boards cap performance at about 15k points, whereas other options let the CPU use more power and reach 17k points. If you choose different boards, consider features like USB ports and built-in sound—maybe a slightly pricier model could offer better audio quality for your needs.

Thanks for your reply. Since you're likely not planning an upgrade in the next five years, your best bet is to go with the I5 12400 right now. Just buy it and use it until it stops working. You don’t need to keep investing in newer models if you’re content with what you have.

I was planning to go with an MSI A Pro, but it wasn't available. I considered alternatives. If I decide not to upgrade for the next five years, what should you suggest?
