During the upgrade, I acquired a GIGABYTE B660 GAMING X DDR4 motherboard (link provided). It functions properly now, fitting an i5 12400F. Over time, some concerns have arisen about RAM speed, CPU power consumption, and storage options. Despite searching online and checking Gigabyte’s official guides, I haven’t found clear answers. Here are my queries:

1. **RAM speed:** I bought a 16GB (two 8GB modules) kit from Kingston at a reasonable price. The board only supports running at 2400MHz. Going above that causes a black screen and the PC to shut down repeatedly until the BIOS is reset. No manufacturer or documentation mentions this limitation. Can anyone suggest a compatible 2x8 or 2x16 RAM package that works smoothly at 3200MHz on this board? Official lists seem insufficient.

2. **Storage devices:** I installed a Samsung 980 GB SSD in the SATA slot near the CPU. It looks good and works fine without extra cables. Some users report issues with multiple M.2 drives, suggesting they might interfere with SATA ports. Can you recommend a solution for adding another 1TB M.2 drive while keeping the PCIE slots functional? The board has three M.2 slots but I’m worried about capacity limits.

3. **CPU power needs:** I plan to upgrade to an i7-12700KF. I know my current board likely can’t overclock and I’m not planning that. However, I’m curious if it can handle the increased power draw of the new CPU without overheating or risking damage. Intel claims a turbo power of 150W, but some users say up to 190W. Do you think the motherboard can supply enough power safely? What about the impact on the existing cooling solution?

Thank you in advance for your insights and advice.

RAM – did you turn on XMP or just attempt to configure it yourself? NVME – yes, both options are fine. You're being overly cautious. CPU – the 12600K is fully compatible and will perform well. You're doubting its capability excessively. The board can handle all your suggestions.

Verify if RAM is installed in slot A2 and B2 (slots 2 and 4).

Did you adjust any BIOS configurations? Consider loading Optimized Defaults. Apply XMP profile 3200CL16. If unsuccessful, provide the board and/or RAM.

I need to be honest, I’m unsure about these steps since I’m not very experienced with BIOS settings beyond picking the boot drive and adjusting memory speed in XMP.

On the EXIT section of the BIOS, locate the Save Changes and Exit... options. A line named Load Optimized Defaults should appear. This will reset your BIOS to its original factory condition, effectively reversing any changes you made. You can then configure XMP as the sole function it performs. Additionally, provide your BIOS version information.

Uncertain about the method, but it functions (I attempted the XMP setting, I’m pretty sure I did before, so I’m a bit puzzled, but whatever, it works!). The system displays my RAM at 3200mhz and it appears stable so far after several hours of CS:GO / Lethal Company. Thank you kindly. ^u^
