Recently, I was checking Chrome and suddenly my computer stopped working. I assumed the power adapter was faulty and left it, but when I returned, the machine wouldn’t power on at all. Pressing the power button gave no response—no lights, no fans. I checked my power supply first and it seemed okay. Then I thought the graphics card might be defective since it’s an older component and I had bought a used GTX 960. After disconnecting the power supply from the card and turning on the system, everything started working properly. However, I couldn’t connect to the monitor via VGA and a new light appeared on the bottom right of the motherboard, labeled VGA. The manual mentioned this light signals issues with VGA, so I suspect the GTX 960 failed and disrupted something on the board. I attempted to swap the PCIe slot but still had no response. I haven’t reset CMOS or removed the CPU, just to avoid permanent damage. Do I need to replace the motherboard or is there a simpler fix? Any suggestions would be appreciated. My specs are: motherboard Gigabyte B350, CPU Ryzen 5 1600X, RAM 2x 3200MHz DDR4, two 4GB ballistic sticks, GPU GTX 960 (2GB), power supply Corsair CX550, storage Seagate 1TB HDD plus a 256GB SSD, Windows 10 OS.
What you're explaining is essentially what occurs when a graphics card fails. If your system has a defective GPU, the power supply will cut off to protect itself.
