Is it possible to refresh the BIOS without updating the CPU? You might want to consider this since you're thinking about a third-gen Ryzen and this board looks promising, especially with its RGB features.

Don't buy anything from a store or request a boot kit from AMD. The BIOS might already be current, you never know.

I recently replaced my motherboard – it handled the 2600 fine at first, but overheated (confirmed by hardware info). Buildzoid and HWUB reviewers agree on that. If you plan to upgrade beyond the 3600x (perhaps 3700x) later, consider another board, especially if you want a Ryzen 3000 in a few years. The RGB lighting wasn’t very vibrant either – it looks stunning in the dark but becomes dull even with a little light.

Or mainly because of the RGB settings. Using eight cores at stock performance is about as far as it gets, since the core parts aren't much different from the B450 models from the same manufacturer.
