Hello! I appreciate your inquiry. I hope you understand that my questions might seem simple, but I’m genuinely seeking clarification on this setup. My configuration includes a few components and I’m curious about combining them.

For example, can I add another PCIe slot using a PCIE4X 10Gb card? I own a Synology 1517+ NAS that supports 10Gb, but I’m unsure if adding more PCIe lanes would work without impacting the GPU or overall performance. Also, I have M.2 SSDs and a SATA drive, and I want to know if I can use them together without affecting the GPU’s speed.

I’m not an expert, so I value your guidance. Thank you for taking the time to help!

Insert the card into the second PCIe port; the first slot (containing the GPU) will downgrade to x8. Placing it in the third slot (black) keeps the GPU at x16 while the NIC links to the chipset and shares bandwidth with M.2s, SATA, etc.

You're welcome on clarifying this! It sounds like you're exploring alternative PCIe slot options. Using a different PCIe slot (like x1) instead of M.2 and SATA would depend on your motherboard's compatibility and the specific requirements of your system. Make sure the new slot matches the form factor and supported by your hardware.

Refer to the motherboard guide; occasionally filling certain x1 slots can turn off specific SATA or M.2 connections.

Are you running the Z390 chipset? You can verify the motherboard manual here: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/M...0708_e.pdf. Some components actually share lanes, so check page 20 for conflicts. If you purchase a PCIe x1 SATA add-in card like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Ziyituod-Controll...390&sr=8-3, you should be able to switch your PCIe x1 slot to a SATA port. Keep in mind that PCIe Gen 3 x1 supports up to 7.58Gbps.

You understand that filling both M.2 slots will block three SATA ports, which is fine. I won’t use more than two SATA ports—one for the Firecuda 120 SSD and another for the spinning hard drive. Perhaps later I might consider a different SATA SSD.

The PCIe x1 and PCIEX4 ports on the Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi are fully reserved. Other chipset details remain unclear.

You're using the Z390 chipset, which doesn't require extra SATA ports. However, you may need a PCIe sound card or other peripherals, and I'd like to understand any potential limitations.

For your situation, ensure four SATA ports remain functional. Adding an M2A with M2 PCIe or NVMe SSD won’t block the SATA3 1 port. Using a standard M2 SATA SSD will disable that port instead.

Apologies for the confusion, but it seems the entire PCIe x1 slot is reserved for a specific purpose.
