Gigabyte 3070 Vision faces thermal issues remaining post-Repaste.
In short, the GPU was overheating, causing a black screen and freezing. I upgraded to an MX4 and replaced the thermal pads. Now the card runs at 210 MHz with very low FPS.
Adjusting pads influences the thermal connections based on their thickness. The situation you mentioned is unusual in both directions. It seems you likely experienced poor heat transfer between the heatsink and VRAM before, now it's between the heatsink and the main chip. Reducing voltage could help (my dual fan 3070 runs well in a suboptimal case). Edited May 20, 2025 by leclod
The guarantee is no longer valid, so I don't have any concerns about it.
Hmm, you're on the right track! It seems the issue wasn't about the chip itself but rather the plastic wrap left on it. Thinner wrapping might have affected performance. The game still runs at around 80 FPS, but I'll look into a possible black screen now.
