I prefer not to spend $100 on a GPU and considered using the Windows 10 technical preview instead. I’m curious about how long that lasts before you have to upgrade to the full version. Also, does it work well on my main PC, or are there any issues?

It's working well at the moment since I'm testing it on my machine until Christmas. There are a few minor issues that occasionally disrupt things, such as the mouse not responding to clicks.

You might find affordable Windows 8 keys on sites like G2A. Which graphics card are you aiming for? Updated: December 17, 2014 by Ramamataz

It's stable, I've been using it from its launch day and haven't encountered any issues...

I’m already getting close with the GTX 970, so if I install an OS I’d need to upgrade to a 760. I don’t want an AMD GPU and Nvidia’s features.

This might seem unusual, but using Linux Ubuntu could work well based on your gaming preferences. With Steam OS, more applications are now available for Linux.
