Hello everyone, this is someone just starting out in the technical side of things. I've been using my prebuilt PC for about 6 to 7 years without any issues, but it doesn’t meet the minimum specs needed for Monster Hunter Wilds. The beta version didn’t impress me either. Apart from swapping in a new SSD a while back, I haven’t made any other changes, so I think it’s time to build a fresh system and fine-tune everything.

Estimated Purchase Date:
Ideally next month, not wanting to rush but also not wanting to delay too much before playing.

Budget Range:
I’m looking at a maximum spend of around £2000, though I’m aware that things might not work as expected right now. Of course, I’m open to spending less if needed.

System Usage:
Mainly for gaming, browsing, and work (not planning on doing video editing or streaming).

Monitor:
No, I’m using a HP 24fw which is still working well and lasts longer than expected.

Upgrade Items:
Mostly the same components as before; I could salvage some parts from the old PC, but family members might want to use it or I’ll keep it safe.

Operating System:
Yes, I think I need to switch to Windows 11. I’m considering Linux too, but I’d probably stick with Windows for games and work.

Preferred Parts Sources:
Prefer not to buy from Amazon, though I understand if necessary. No other preferences.

Location:
UK

Graphics Preferences:
I’m aiming for a Nvidia 4070 card, which is just above the recommended specs for MH Wilds (4060). I’m also thinking about an AMD CPU.

Overclocking:
No

Multiple GPUs:
No

Monitor Resolution:
1920x1080

Additional Notes:
When checking graphics options, Currys had the MSI RTX 4070 12GB in stock for £510, which seems like a reasonable price online. I’ve also heard that Wilds requires a lot of VRAM, so having 12GB instead of 8 would be beneficial and could help with future upgrades. The biggest challenge is figuring out and balancing other essential components like the power supply, fans, motherboard, and case space. Most importantly, why am I doing this upgrade?
I want to play Monster Hunter Wilds smoothly—don’t need it to be top-of-the-line, but it should run well and look decent.

This is merely a template, not set in stone. 2x SSD's, one for the OS, app's and launchers while the larger drive is for your games library. I went with a small form factor build.

A pleasant white/grey style build fits all your needs while staying within budget. It offers sufficient vRAM for a future upgrade to a better monitor. You can also save money by skipping the full-priced Windows key—just use the PC without activation and avoid paying extra for desktop wallpapers.

The helper shared several solid choices. I’m thinking about possibly skipping the board and going with a b650 if you’re looking to save, or even moving up to a 7700x if you want more savings. Alternatively, you could head to the 7700 model linked below—it’s close to the 7700x.
You also have the option of the 7700x, which I own and am satisfied with.
Another choice is the ATX AM5 motherboard for a gaming B650 plus Wi-Fi, though it’s not necessary.
If you choose the 7900xtx, I picked it because I found a great deal. However, if you go with the 7900xtx, ray tracing comes closer to an RTX 4070, but your raster performance would drop compared to an RTX 4080.
With the savings, you could also upgrade to a 1440p monitor. For this build, having at least 1440p would help balance things and improve visuals—upgrading there was one of the best visual improvements I’ve made.

Thanks for all the choices everyone has presented! You've certainly provided some ideas to consider, and you've already assisted me in accepting the notion of investing a bit more for enhanced performance and durability. I believe helper800's build and Why_Me's second version are the types of builds I'll aim for in the end; now it's just about fine-tuning the details.

Talking about it further,
I'm open to using an AMD GPU instead of an Nvidia one, though I'm aware that Wilds offers some Nvidia-specific configurations for DLSS. While I'm not overly concerned with frame generation settings, I need to weigh the trade-offs between the two options.

I'm also mindful of the 12v high power cable issue. From what I understand, it mainly impacts cards like 80 and 90, but I remain a bit uneasy about potential risks if something fails. It seems AMD cards don't rely heavily on them at least.

I think I grasp that accessories typically come with matching cables, but there might be some additional ones I need to acquire. Any guidance on what to look for?

Reviewing the recommended cases has reminded me of my preference for a sleek design, like the Fractal North. It would add more cost compared to the alternatives, but I'm willing to spend a little more for a superior build. Among the options here, I appreciate the Montech Air 903, though it lacks that aesthetic appeal. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Other than that, I suppose the coming days will be spent evaluating and comparing various components as much as possible.

Depending on your preference, I own a case that suits me quite well. Its top and both sides are detachable, offering many possibilities.
https://www.microcenter.com/product...pe...case-white
I want to mention the power connectors. So far, with AMD cards they haven’t been using those. You also have the AMD RX 9070 and 9070 XT models expected in early March, which are reported to have better ray tracing performance—worth keeping an eye on them.

The latest update for the RTX 5070 Ti with 16GB memory marks a significant improvement. I was surprised to learn that this GPU now supports PCIe 5.0, which I had assumed wasn't possible. You can find more details here: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=566 and here:
