Hey there, I see you're dealing with a tricky setup. You're trying to connect your MAC mini to NVR software using a VPN that routes traffic through an ISP's server instead of directly connecting the phone. That approach can help keep the phone off the VPN at all times, which might be what you want. Have you considered checking if the ISP has any restrictions or specific configurations for remote access? Also, make sure your NVR software supports VPN connections and that you're using the correct port settings. If you need further help, feel free to ask!

Configure WireGuard on the Mac Mini. Once a peer joins, it should connect to the NVR as if it were on the local network. Enable the VPN to establish the link, which is just one more step before you can view the cameras. It takes about three seconds. If that delay is unacceptable, consider enabling split tunneling on the peer side. This method is a bit more complex and requires the NVR’s subnet to differ from the default 192.168.1.1 to avoid routing confusion. Split tunneling keeps the VPN active while directing only certain traffic through the tunnel. Nonetheless, I recommend beginning with a simple WireGuard configuration—you can turn it on or off quickly. This exact arrangement works for my parents, and they manage it easily.

Sure, I'll check out WireGuard. Do you think it offers helpful guidance on the split tunnel setup?

Searching for WireGuard split tunnel information online will provide useful details. Once you establish the basic tunnel, implementing the split tunnel becomes straightforward. The main challenge is ensuring the necessary ports are open. You should be able to resolve this and get it working.

It seems the connection issue might be due to the ISP, as port forwarding isn’t working. The device shows a green connection on your phone and Mac, but you can’t reach the camera IPs. You might need to recheck the setup or contact support.

WireGuard confirms a connection, but does it establish a working link? Yes, it initiates the handshake process. Internet access is required for the connection to function properly.
