Getting help with networking in an apartment situation
Hi everyone. I just moved into an apartment and need to connect my computer to the internet. There are two Ethernet wall mounts available, as shown in the pictures. One Verizon worker installed the modem with a coaxial cable in the living room, which you can see in the photo. I also discovered the utility panel in the closet, visible below. I’m not sure if the Ethernet ports are already connected or how to verify that with my current modem and router setup. I’d like to set this up myself without waiting a week for maintenance. Any advice or clarification would be really helpful—thank you!
Are you leasing or owning this? If you rent, avoid handling it. Mistakes will leave you with a big repair cost. Plus, why force the PC into the wall ports instead of checking a simple connection?
I control both the modem and router. I connected my computer to all four ports but received no response.
You should connect the Ethernet cable from the router to any of the ports marked 1 through 8 on the black panel.
Keep all items inside the walls or containers with the maintenance team.
You connect all eight ports to the patch panel and then insert the router into a wall port or link it via a switch, connecting the remaining ports as needed. Edit: It seems only six ports are ready, making an eight-port switch ideal.
