Hey guys so I'm currently doing an IST assignment and i was wondering if you guys could give me a list of hardware/ software which will be essential for networking supoermarket. I would prefer if you can get the products/ components from Australian based stores. This is the specifications for the supermarket. Scenario 4: Supermarket Employees: 1 store manager, 1 assistant manager, 4 register operators, 3 customer service staff, 1 stores/dock manager, 5 stores/prep workers Specific requirements: complete wifi access across the store to assist in management and immediate/direct customer service connecting to stores and stock information, a server (separate to all other terminals/workstations), a private connection to their suppliers Considerations: please consider the emphasis on customer service and ‘at the finger tips’ information availability, and theft of stock Thank you guys for your time, I would really appreciate if you guys can help me with this

You should prepare your assignment by setting up a RedHat Server (any model works, but Dell PowerEdge are ideal) for your backend system. Install RedHat Linux to access their support services when needed. Connect a Cisco switch for wired networking inside the building. Use a Pix firewall or VPN to secure connections and provide access to supplier servers. Deploy a collection of Dell ThinClients or dumb terminals in the cash registers. Add a Cisco Wi-Fi router to ensure coverage throughout the store. Install security cameras with Wi-Fi protection strategically placed around the premises to monitor for any loss or theft.

Great point, you'll definitely need a modem. As for CAT5 versus CAT6, CAT6 offers improved performance and higher bandwidth, making it the better choice for modern applications.

Relies on internet access and backhaul to the corporate office, though in most scenarios you'll have fiber connectivity with at least Cat5e or Cat6, which helps future-proof the setup. For better performance near power lines, consider Cat6A.
