We’re planning to remove an old furnace area and convert it into a networking closet. We’re familiar with electrical wiring and want to choose suitable products for a modern setup. A cabinet rack style networking solution sounds ideal. Please let me know what steps are needed to complete the project.

Focus on your requirements instead of checking what you can obtain. Core items include a modem, router, switch, and a power distribution unit will be useful. A UPS is optional but recommended, and a server or servers are needed for hosting purposes.

Start with a rough estimate of your finances. As mentioned earlier, what are your main goals? Are you managing servers? Do you have power outlets on site? Is there proper airflow in the storage area? Servers tend to heat up, so consider how you’ll manage that. Think about your wiring setup and decide on drop locations and wire counts for each. It’s wise to clarify your needs now, keeping in mind that budget constraints may require prioritizing tasks.
