I've just placed an order for the Archer C5400 and a two-pack of the Deco M9. I'm considering canceling the current order to switch to just the Archer C5400X. Initially, I was planning to use the Deco M9 and the older C5400 together so the M9 would handle the perimeter for good outdoor coverage during spring and summer, while the C5400 would stay for my wired office and gaming gear. However, I'm thinking the upgraded C5400X might offer better value for my budget. Since I need to cancel and reorder quickly, I'd appreciate faster responses. The router will be installed in a finished basement where the gaming and office are located. My family will mainly use it above in the family room, but we also have a porch at the back of the house that requires a staircase through the center to reach. It will go through cinder blocks. We currently use a Linsys router, but we're having issues getting WiFi on the patio.

Your deco m5 is performing well on a 500/500 network with just one dedicated backbone. Could that be the reason?

I wondered if using just M9s would have worked, but I was nervous about relying solely on mesh networking. It’s a big setup with multiple consoles, a smart TV, two PC desktops, an iPad, and several Alexa and Google Home devices. I’m not sure what the optimal setup would be.

If I were you, even with a top router, there would still be gaps. Only in a tiny apartment would you really need one.

A mesh network would work well for this. It's unclear if a M5 chip could manage it, but there are other choices available. Keeping the deco app in mind offers more maintenance benefits than a web interface.
