Hello, I need to widen my network coverage by installing an Access Point (WAX615PA). For this, I’m considering a managed network switch and want to understand the different layers involved. I currently have an Xfinity Modem/Router Combo (XB7) and a Nighthawk device operating in Access Point mode (RAX80). I’m trying to figure out which layer switch is appropriate for this configuration.

You don’t have to rely on a managed switch for an AP. It’s enough with a compatible PoE switch or injector, or just using standard AC power. What purpose does the switch serve?

The AP can be managed via its dedicated interface, not just a switch. Yes, an access point typically has its own configuration settings.

Various users deploy their software either on-site, via a dedicated controller, through an app, or in the cloud. The WAX615PA falls under Netgear's Insight series of APs. It offers one year of cloud management, yet can be handled locally if you choose not to continue after that period.
