Hey everyone, I’m seeking some reliable guidance. I recently built a gaming PC and have faced several issues. It seems the problem might be resolved, but I’m still encountering persistent difficulties. Gigabyte doesn’t seem to help much, and their support feels unreliable regarding warranty matters. I opted for an Aorus Z490 Master MB with three M.2 slots, mainly for gaming purposes. Frequently I’d see BSOD errors related to memory management, thinking the RAM was faulty. Corsair proved to be very helpful—they conducted tests and confirmed the RAM passed all checks. However, after replacing it, the same BSODs continued. Now, even with the new RAM installed, I’m still getting those errors.

I contacted Intel, Gigabyte, Corsair, Microsoft, and EVGA for assistance. They suggested trying a different GPU in my system. When I removed the old one, I found the connector broke and the plastic around the PCIe slot was damaged. I assumed Gigabyte would fix the motherboard after replacement, but they apologized and clarified that physical damage isn’t covered under warranty.

They asked for photos while examining the board, and I noticed a misaligned resistor—one side was partially soldered, the other at an odd angle. No visible damage nearby. I’m starting to suspect this resistor issue could be the root cause of the BSOD. They told me they wouldn’t repair it under warranty and would charge for it.

I was shocked to learn that Gigabyte won’t fix the problem within warranty terms, but they’d bill me for it. Despite this, I found their customer service surprisingly helpful. After researching, I saw many complaints about Gigabyte’s support and warranty handling. This has made me consider filing a class-action complaint. I’m now facing a $400 bill for the issue.

I even requested part numbers so I could attempt repairs myself or at a local shop, but they refused to share that information. My question for you all: Are there other motherboard brands with similar RAM options to the Aorus Z490 Master MB? I’m no longer trusting Gigabyte and would prefer to avoid their products. It’s strange, isn’t it? The company I bought from later claimed Gigabyte is among the worst for warranty support. They’ve even refused to repair boards with minor scratches, even if they’re far from the problem area.

I’m curious—what other motherboards offer comparable RAM choices? I won’t buy from Gigabyte again, either for the poor service or lack thereof. It’s not fair! Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can provide.

Hey, how tough are you with your parts before they damage plastic slots? It seems like the issue lies with you, not the board. I wouldn’t even replace the motherboard since the problem probably started from your side. Could you share a photo of that resistor and its surroundings? That’ll help us figure it out. I’d suggest starting with a simple setup—just one SSD and maybe a couple of RAM sticks—and run a memory test. Once you’re sure everything’s stable, add more components gradually. A poor power supply can also cause problems. What are the brands and models of your other components?

I’d have understood if once I was told to take out and swap the GPU, but it wasn’t done. It kept being asked to remove it several times. The case I bought, labeled as compatible, actually fits perfectly—but there’s no space to shift anything without moving the GPU each time. The liquid cooler had to go, which meant taking out the GPU too. Those clips are really fragile; you don’t need strong hands to break them. I assure you, handling all the tech support staff proved tricky—multiple crash files were sent to different people. Memory issues made up about 95% of the failures. Running memtest86 repeatedly always showed it was okay. Even Corsair’s tech support said RAM passes the test but still fails. In my opinion, this might stem from a faulty resistor installation. I’ve swapped out just one stick of RAM, my main SSD, and still got BSODs. I changed the SSD to another model, but the same problems persisted. It’s strange that only the motherboard and power supply stayed new; everything else in this PC is under a year old, and I’ve been experiencing problems for at least four months now.

I can recreate the image of the clip with the full video included. We’re working with a Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Master motherboard. Let’s identify the other parts: CPU, graphics card model, AIO type and model, memory specifications. There’s also a surface-mount resistor that came loose—this is straightforward to replace. You can attempt the repair yourself or have it professionally fixed at a nearby electronics repair shop, usually within minutes.

CPU is an I7-11700K GPU is an EVGA RTX3080ti FTW3 AOI is an EVGA CL24 RAM is now Vengence 64gb 3600mhz if the resistor could be found I’d try to solder it back on myself. I’d also try to repair the pcie slot too; however, Gigabyte are being dicks and won’t tell me the proper part numbers of what type resistor it is. It’s internal info only, not for the public. I wasn’t too upset when they refused the RMA, but when they refused to provide part numbers, well, that really choked me up. After reading all the complaints against Gigabyte I see a great opportunity to start a class action lawsuit against them. For the love of god, provide part numbers if you’re not going to repair it!
