Get advice on optimizing your CPU setup for a new build.
Hey everyone, I'm planning to set up a new PC soon and my main goals are gaming and photo editing. I've been considering the Intel Core i7 9700K and the AMD 3700X, but I'd love some advice or recommendations. Also, it's been a while since I built a PC—about four years ago.
Which editing suite are you using? Are you getting a full system, or just the CPU, Mobo, and RAM?
Currently in gaming, the 9700 offers a slight edge. But as more titles support multiple threads, the 3700x will eventually take the lead. Additionally, the AM4 platform is still alive, with Ryzen 4000 chips likely compatible with existing motherboards. This means you can upgrade to the newest AMD offerings in just a few years.
I work with Adobe Photoshop and other tools, currently based in the UK. Prices for Intel are high right now, but AMD offers better value. I’m planning a fresh setup that matches what I’ve used recently—an older laptop for a while.
3700x got my approval...the processors are quite similar in many aspects...but 3700x includes a cooler and supports 16 threads. It looks like it offers better long-term compatibility. If you mentioned playing FPS games at 144Hz, I’d probably favor the 9700k a bit more, but you didn’t.
