I might have made some risky changes to my old 2010 MacBook Air, hoping to upgrade to the latest version (Mojave). My machine didn’t support it, so I downloaded a bootable drive, installed it, and kept using it until an update arrived. It was for Safari, but everything worked fine until a security patch released weeks later. I installed that too. When I turned it back on after leaving, it started a restart loop and locked me out completely. I had to use my USB drive and reinstall everything. The reinstaller mentioned pre-installed packages, so I thought about wiping the hard drive. After doing that, when I tried to reinstall again, it still said packages were present. I’m considering downgrading to High Sierra, but my Mac is now completely inaccessible without an OS. I’m trying to fix things on my PC and would really appreciate any advice.

It didn’t work as expected. I received an error message, and even after restarting, the issue persisted.

I can, though it leads you to the internet recovery process and pushes you to set up MacOS Lion. I’m mainly interested in installing High Sierra, but the boot drive won’t allow it. It only asks for your internet connection instead of letting you pick the boot drive.

You've encountered an issue with Internet Recovery blocking the installation of macOS Lion. You attempted to sign in via iCloud online, but the iCloud site isn't loading on your Mac. Consider checking your internet connection or trying a different method to access the installation page.
