hello there, friendly internet users. I recently purchased a gaming PC and haven’t quite found the right game to enjoy properly. when i first booted up Fallout 4, it felt like a childhood memory—exciting yet frustrating. several issues have popped up during gameplay, especially with titles like Mad Max: BF4 and Fallout. frame drops are becoming a regular problem; i usually manage around 60 fps, but sometimes it plummets to just 20 fps or less. this happens even when i lower the settings to minimum. my setup includes an AMD FX-8350 with ultra settings for Fallout, and switching to medium still doesn’t fix the issue. the game runs smoothly when i stay stationary, but moving through the wasteland causes consistent frame drops. anyone have any ideas or solutions? i really want to play Fallout with decent graphics and a steady frame rate—ideally around 30 or 60 fps. my rig features a Corsair Vengeance Jet Black case, an AMD Radeon NITRO R9 390, and a high-end power supply. thanks for your help!

AMD hasn't released a driver optimized for Fallout 4 just yet, so patience is advised. Expect more updates soon.

Thanks for the update, patches and drivers should resolve it soon. I’m curious about why I’m facing the same problems in other games.

I haven't tried it yet. What do you think about VSync?

It could be the CPU limiting performance, as Fallout is one of the few games that fully utilizes its features. The 390 model often struggles with games using just four cores or less. Also, check if Vsync is enabled.

Here’s a clearer version of your thoughts:
I have a suggestion, guys—trying to disable VSync might help. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not using an SSD at all, or if buying one would improve frame consistency. It seems like when it happens, the game is loading in chunks. Just a guess?

Occasionally, though rare.

After finishing work, I plan to enjoy a game with VSync enabled. Is there a method to set Fallout 4 to 30 FPS for smoother performance?

If you set your screen to 30Hz, it could indicate a CPU issue.

Your AMD system runs below its recommended specifications, achieving 60 FPS at Ultra settings with motion blur disabled and occasional performance drops. The Phenom II X4 805 with 6GB DDR at 1066MHz seems to be handling the workload, but if you're using tools like HWinfo, it might help identify any hardware limitations. It could also be that the game's optimization isn't fully leveraging your setup.
