Gaming with Freesync
Gaming with Freesync
Hi
I'm experiencing FPS drops in a particular game, usually around 60-50 FPS, otherwise it's stable at 60. It seems to be due to poor optimization of the game engine, which is a common issue. I've heard about Freesync monitors and read some information suggesting they might help. They could improve smoothness without fixing the FPS problem directly. Would anyone with experience in Freesync confirm if it really eliminates visible frame drops?
Thanks for your advice.
It can improve smoother playback by aligning refresh with FPS output, allowing the GPU to be visible rather than the monitor guessing or syncing independently. This reduces potential frame drops or flickering. FPS should stay within the freeSync range for optimal results; if your monitor uses freeSync but has a lower refresh rate than the computer can support, you'll need to limit FPS so it stays within that range. FreeSync itself doesn't restrict FPS, so you may need to adjust manually if it exceeds. More details are available in the documentation and various freeSync versions.
Thank you for your question. I was wondering if a 75 hz monitor with Freesync would work well, and whether a range of 48 to 75 Hz is suitable. If I maintain 60 fps in the game, would that be optimal?
You should set the frame rate to 75, it's not necessary to limit it to 60.
Alright, just let me figure this out. If I mainly play at 60 fps, do I really need a Freesync monitor with 120hz or higher? And would a 120hz monitor allow for a drop to around 60-50 fps? Thanks for clarifying.
A screen generally represents a long-term investment, and monitors with 120hz~144hz capabilities don't have to be expensive. Having this feature would be beneficial if you plan to upgrade your video card later. As long as the frame rate stays within free sync, the monitor's capability doesn't affect performance—freesync will still function at your current FPS, allowing it to reach higher levels. The free sync range extends up to the monitor's maximum refresh rate.
I believe I understand what I require. Thank you for your support.
It's a great time to purchase a monitor. I recently bought a 32-inch curved screen with a 1440p resolution and a 165hz refresh rate for 249. However, there are other offers available too. Just choose the largest screen you need with the best refresh rate that suits you and enjoy your experience. Graphics cards have slightly decreased this year, so upgrading should be feasible for the future as well.
