Gaming PC restart
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to share a challenge I'm facing with my new PC. It seems certain games aren't running properly. When I launch them, the computer will restart immediately after starting—no blue screen appears. This issue only occurs with "War Thunder" and "Ghost Recon: Wildlands." I can play other titles like "Overwatch," "CS:GO," "Skyrim," "RD2," "Subnautica," "Watch Dogs," "Diablo 3," "Far Cry 4," "Raft," and many more without any problems. I also run benchmarks like Heaven and Cinebench smoothly. I've completed a performance test using OCCT for an hour, and my memory tests came back clean.
I'm puzzled as to why only these two games seem to have problems. The Windows Event Log shows a critical "Kernel-Power" error 41. I suspect the issue might be related to Nvidia graphics cards in War Thunder, but I'm not sure about Ghost Recon's behavior. Temperatures stay below 60°C for both CPU and GPU, usually around 55-58°C, so overheating isn't the cause.
Here are my PC specifications:
- OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
- Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB - PC4-21300 - DIMM
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU: Gigabyte AORUS GeForce RTX 3060 Elite 12G (rev. 2)
- PSU: Seasonic Focus GX - 850W
I've tried running a stress test with OCCT for an hour and completed a memory diagnostic without issues.
I'm unsure why these particular games keep failing, but I'll continue investigating.
Open your device manager and check for any devices requiring driver updates. Pay attention to your GPU and sound card, as these might need drivers for the games you're using.
Thank you for your response. I verified the device manager and found no issues. I rely on the GeForce Experience software to maintain my GPU's updates.
My audio driver is Realtek High Definition version 6.0.9071.1, and the Nvidia game ready driver is v. 511.79.
Additionally, consider using ddu gpu uninstaller, Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.4.8 (guru3d.com), then reinstall the GPU driver without installing GeForce Experience.
Yes, I have MSI afterburner installed, but it isn't being used for overclocking since there are no active overclocks. The current settings are: core voltage +0%, power limit 100%, temperature limit 83°C, core clock and memory clock at +0, fan speed at 100%. I plan to run the driver uninstaller and then ask how to install the driver—either directly from the Nvidia website or via the Windows Driver Updater.
It didn't work as expected. I clicked the rotating arrow, then the checkmark, which only reset my fan speed to "auto". When trying to launch WarThunder, my PC restarted right away after the initial loading screen. I started my PC in safe mode and removed all graphics drivers using DDU, downloaded a GPU driver from NVIDIA without installing GeForce Experience, but it didn't help. I noticed that if I quickly restart after the reboot, I can enter the game, but alt-tabbing causes another restart. If I leave the PC idle for five minutes, it restarts as soon as the initial loading screen appears (before the full-screen one). I ran Malwarebytes and found nothing, just in case there was a virus.
I purchased a brand new 2TB SSD and plan to install a fresh Windows copy on it, checking if that resolves the issues. Right now I rely on an SSD for the operating system and a WD black HDD for Steam files. These drives were moved to the new PC when these problems began. Perhaps a clean Windows installation will make a difference.
Consider turning off the afterburner and the Riva tuner, then attempt to start the game.
