Hello! Your setup with two Radeon R9 290X GPUs is great for both gaming and editing tasks. For running Windows, consider 10 or 11 if you need the latest features, or 8 for a balance of performance and stability. If you're unsure about partitioning, you can follow standard Windows installation guides. Since you already have ISO files for 7, 8, and 8.1, you’re off to a solid start. Let me know if you need help with the installation steps!

Certain games perform optimally on 8/8.1, yet the difference is minimal overall.

I don’t believe the 8.1 version is worth looking into at all.

Yeah but it's a bit more optimised and when I meantioned Linux at the end it was in general... look at other distros like Arch Linux or DSL you're not gonna be gaming on those EVER. Maybe Ubuntu or Mint but not some of the more complex distros

I wasn't aware of everything. The delay with SteamOS now makes more sense.

8.1 is the latest version; 7 won’t see major features soon, just security patches in the coming months. This implies no DX12 support for Windows 7.

Using 8.1 and Classic Shell is a solid choice. And yes, SteamOS does build on Ubuntu as its foundation.

I’ll admit it honestly; though I’ve played around with Ubuntu a few times, I’m more used to Windows or MAC. For most gamers, Linux would be quite challenging—even without deep technical skills, I still think it’s easier for many people.
