Hi all,
I have a few bits of PC gear hanging around that I’d like to put together into a semi decent gaming PC. Can people advise if the below equip will suffice, or whether I should upgrade (and what to)? I don’t want to spend too much money (<£300), and I am not bothered about top end gaming. Prob just want to play Counter strike with out issue, to be honest.
Not changing (but welcome confirmation…):
Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX480 8gb. Happy with this.
SSD: 120GB sata III Drevo X1 (Read 550 MB/s; Write 400MB/s).
OS: Win 10.
Case: Built my own from bits of metal. Open based.
Power: EVGA Supernova 1300 G2 (1300w)
Extras: Decent fan; keyboard, mouse, etc
Need to Change?:
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-990XA UD3 (
picture attached
)
Almost certainly need to be upgraded:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz 2mb Cache Dual core processor
RAM: two 2gb DDR3 memory (PC3 8500)
Peace and Tranquillity to all (until I am on Counter strike….)

Wow, rapid response. Cheers - appreciated!
Good to know just a new CPU and it should be good for basic gaming like CS. Would have thought the RAM was a bit low, but just checked Steam, and 2GB is sufficient for CS. Cool.
However, CS might end up being a gateway back into gaming, and I don't want to close off that option in the future. I do fancy playing No Mans Sky, and that needs 8gb RAM, so I am tempted to just go with the 2nd option you suggest of the overhaul.
What sort of level of game would the overhaul allow?
Food for thought. Thanks.

Here’s a rewritten version of your text, aiming for clarity and flow:

“The performance of computer games is heavily influenced by several factors. Primarily, the processing power of the CPU and RAM determine how effectively a game can run. However, graphics cards (GPUs) also play a crucial role, particularly when dealing with higher resolutions or complex visual effects. A powerful GPU ensures smooth gameplay, while a weaker one may struggle to maintain optimal settings. The combination of these components – CPU, RAM, and GPU – ultimately dictates the gaming experience.”

Do you want me to adjust this further, perhaps focusing on a specific aspect (e.g., graphics cards)?

Thanks again. Looking like an overhaul is most likely. Just need to source items on UK market.
