Gaming on the Surface Book
Gaming on the Surface Book
I'm thinking about purchasing the Surface Book for both productivity and light gaming. Could anyone share their experience on the frame rates in titles like Hearthstone, League of Legends, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive? Specifically, what are the FPS at native resolution or 1080p? Also, do you think these games would maintain around 60 FPS with medium settings? Lastly, should I opt for the standard I5 model or the one with the dedicated GPU?
For gaming, use the version with the dedicated GPU. If your specs are 960m or higher, you should handle most titles well at 1080p; otherwise, you might do fine in full resolution with optimal settings.
You can enjoy light gaming only with the specific GPU model; the i7 version needs the dedicated GPU, while the i5 works just as an integrated GPU. Otherwise, gaming performance will be very limited.
The decision came from comparing performance on similar games. My friend's 2014 MacBook Air supports LoL at low settings with around 60 frames per second, while my Surface Book uses Skylake and offers a stronger integrated graphics card. I'm not aiming for high-end gaming, so seeking advice from users is the best approach.
6th Gen Intel Core i5-6300U (15W) "NVIDIA GeForce" (about GT 940M) with 1GB GDDR5 or 6th Gen Intel Core i5-6300U (15W) – 960m edit: Anyone owning this model or sharing benchmarks for games like Dota, HOTS, etc.?
I wouldn't attempt it. It boasts an extremely high resolution—far exceeding two times that of 1080p. Plus, it uses a 3:2 aspect ratio, which isn't standard. Carrying all that weight on a low-end GPU is tough, and the aspect ratio challenges are quite frustrating.
