Gaming issues causing PC to freeze or lock up.
Hello everyone. About a month ago my computer began freezing when playing games. I bought an Alienware AW252HFA monitor and started experiencing this issue. I’m not sure if the monitor is the cause or just a coincidence—sometimes it happens a few times in half an hour, other times once every four hours. My PC freezes completely; I can’t move the mouse or use the keyboard. The caps lock doesn’t work either. The screen just stops working and I have to turn off the computer using the power button or cut the power cable. There’s a faint sound coming from it. I’ve tried many fixes online, but nothing seems to help. I recently installed Windows 10 and updated all drivers. My PC was tested three times at a service shop and everything seemed normal. I’m really frustrated. My specifications are: Ryzen 9 3900X, RX 5700XT, ASUS StriX, ROG CrossHair Hero VIII, HERO VIII RT, WIMI RM 850X, SAMSUNG 980PRO SSD 1TB, 1TB HDD, WD BLACK G SKILL TRIDENTZ 2x16 at 3200MHZ, NZXT Kraken X62 cooler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Ryzen and their compatible boards often face RAM stability problems, sometimes taking time to appear. I’d look into the Asus QVL for RAM paired with this board using "Matisse" processors—it really does matter which processor model you have. If your specific RAM part number isn’t listed, that might be a problem since stability can’t be assured. For example, I used a kit that made my 5900X behave poorly, wasn’t compatible with the board and processor, but swapping it out for another that matched all specs restored normal performance.
Your computer was in a service center, so you didn’t have time to reply. They checked it and reset the BIOS back to default, allowing it to boot properly with 2133mhz RAM. During the freezes, you experienced BSODs too. Your motherboard’s QVL list showed G.Skill RAM missing, so you ordered a new one from Corsair that now appears in the list. When replacing it, you’ll test if it runs stably on DOCP standard. Your original G.Skill RAM worked well for three years on DOCP, but it wasn’t listed there either.
