I'm sure this has been exhausted BUT this is the internet after all... Why is it that we are in 2016 ( current gen released in 2013) and not all console games run at 1080p? I'm not one to boast the superiority of PC gaming, I just upgraded to 344x1440 but I could still go back to 1080p and be just fine. I've played on current gen consoles too and the games look fine, just fine is all. I will say though that 30fps didn't bother me until I joined the PCMR and well 30 still isn't bothersome on a console but 60 is obviously preferable. Hopefully next gen will be 1080p across the board? Maybe even 1080p 60? I don't see 4K coming to console before it's something regularly seen on PC.
Game tech keeps changing rapidly, while console hardware updates only occasionally. Moving forward it will just become worse until the next big change. Regarding why 1080p at 60fps wasn't the absolute minimum when it first came out, you can attribute it to the fact that today's consoles are budget models. They aimed to stay under $400 while still earning a profit, which is why you saw that.
Peasants won't get value from a device surpassing their current capabilities. It appears Sony and MS believe a 1080/60 would elevate console prices beyond what most gamers would accept. (Release time)
It really makes sense that this feels like something the game developers should have handled better. Sure, it could have cost more, but I think modular systems with upgradable parts would have been a natural next step. By that point, they might just be PCs with swappable graphics cards. I guess at some stage they’d end up being the first ones, but I’m not sure. Honestly, I’ve been up too long and just wanted to connect with people.
Absolutely, 30 is a solid choice. Most Wii U titles run smoothly at that frame rate, and it's perfectly okay on PC too—just a slight shrug about 30. I always prioritize performance, so I might have misunderstood the point.
