I've been reviewing numerous guides, benchmarks, tests, and videos about a wide range of CPUs recently. My setup remains consistent: an i5 6600K paired with a GTX 1070, 24GB of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance CL15 memory. I'm considering an upgrade to a new motherboard and likely a cooler (Hyper 212X). Ideally, I'd like an 8-core, 16-thread CPU that could sustain me for at least five years. (I'm trying not to sound uninformed—I'm still catching up on current trends.) I've been using this configuration for about three years, but I opted for a less powerful CPU back then due to budget limits. I won't be changing my RAM setup, as it's already within my budget. My primary use is gaming with occasional streaming, and I don't plan to edit videos or compile code. A friend suggested the 10700K, which seems like the top pick. Yet many praise AMD's Ryzen offerings. The 10700K pushes my budget further than I'm comfortable with. However, if it offers significant performance gains and durability, I'd prefer not to exceed that price point. I've also considered the 3800X, but it feels like a weaker option with more complexity (lower core efficiency, memory dependency during overclocking). The 10600K appears more affordable, though I'm unsure about its long-term reliability given its six cores versus my current four. Are there any actual core numbers, speeds, or pricing details that spark interest? The 3800x delivers 0.6Ghz per core with the 10700k, and it seems redundant to wait for a nearly identical CPU from another brand at a comparable cost.

Welcome to the forum! In short, if you're just playing games, an i5 10600k is one of the top choices available. It runs at impressive speeds and can rival a 10900k after some tweaks. For better multi-core performance, consider a Ryzen 7 or 9. The 10700k isn't worth it since it doesn’t improve gaming performance over the 10600k and underperforms in core-heavy tasks compared to Ryzen at similar prices. I’m thinking about getting a 10600k but will wait for the next-gen Ryzen release before deciding. GPU speed will be the main limiting factor. Unless you plan to upgrade it soon, I wouldn’t bother with a CPU change. The 6600k is decent—have you optimized your CPU?

The expected release timeline remains uncertain, and the announcement doesn’t confirm a real launch. AMD is reportedly planning a future release within one to two weeks, though this still differs from an actual retail product launch. EDIT: Don’t worry about reading this 😅

A 4GHz processor on Zen 2 performs better than a 4GHz one on Skylake (and its versions), but higher clock speeds don't always mean better results. If Intel CPUs were that fast, they'd be among the top performers.

Your 6600k runs smoothly at 4.4Ghz across all cores. Regarding the other question, it’s confusing why Intel offers only 2 cores with 4 threads instead of more options. Although the boost isn’t massive right now, it could become important later. I appreciate the value and performance of the 10600k, but I keep thinking about the 6-core/12-thread alternative versus the 8-core/16-thread choice. The GPU upgrade might come soon if I notice it’s not delivering enough speed.
