Hey everyone, just got shift 2 and 3, here are my thoughts: 1. I really enjoy the cars in the game—there are plenty of them, lots of styles, old and new, rare ones included. 2. It seems like it’s not designed for Windows 8 anymore, and you can tell it feels like a game from around 2011. 3. I can’t think of any racing games released recently that have that many cars... Are there any PC titles or upcoming projects (like Project Cars) that might offer similar variety?

NFS: Shift 2 is incredibly overlooked. One of the top racing titles I've experienced. A great blend of arcade and simulation. I've explored this topic before, and every path pointed toward Project Cars. I'm really looking forward to the final release.

There are several racing titles available including rFactor 1 and 2, Assetto Corsa, and Simbin's projects. rFactor is an older title, not particularly flashy, but offers a wide range of mods for a racing simulation. Some mods are decent while others are nearly flawless (CART Factor) rFactor 2 – a more visually appealing version, though it still has limited mod support. Assetto Corsa provides a solid experience, though it's smaller than Shift 1 and 2 but can be enhanced with additional mods. Future updates like the upcoming Dream Pack represent paid DLC expansions. Simbin features games from earlier eras such as Race 07 and GT Legends, offering a variety of vehicles to explore. Most of these cars are already ported to rFactor. Keep in mind that these racing sims differ from the arcade feel of Shift 1 and 2. Other options include GRID 1, 2, and Autosport.

I'm still in the same situation with Shift 2, even with a custom engine and 2011 graphics. It's a decent endurance game offering a range of cars and mod support for popular series like GT3 and Super GT. If you want alternatives to Forza, you'd likely need to heavily modify rFactor 1/2 or Raceroom; all Codemasters titles are still enjoyable despite their limitations, though F1 isn't recommended unless you're into single-seaters. From a driving experience standpoint, Slightly Mad Studios is the only one with an advanced helmet view in Shift 2 / Project Cars. You can easily switch immersion devices like TrackIR or an OCLL to most titles, similar to racing wheels. Outside of tracks such as Spa, Silverstone/Donnington and Mount Panorama, other racing games vary widely in circuit selection (unless you opt for iRacing). Racing at places like Hockenheimring, Suzuka and Zolder is becoming increasingly challenging.

Today I made a big effort and purchased Forza 4—my Xbox was already there. I recalled how much I enjoyed playing it before, and after checking the car options, I was really impressed.
