Essentially, most games offer endless customization options ranging from vehicle upgrades to visual tweaks and camera settings, plus director-style changes.

Determine what matters most to you—story, gameplay, graphics, or multiplayer—and choose accordingly.

I'd recommend New Vegas as a stronger title overall, particularly because of its DLC and add-ons. Fallout 4 offers slightly improved visuals and a more active modding community.

My altered Fallout 4 experience surpasses any regular version I've tried. Currently I'm playing Space Engineer, which is enjoyable for those who enjoy constructing things. I haven't added mods yet but plan to in the future. Today I'm preparing a server for my son and his friends. I'm hoping my i7 6700k will handle it since I have a suitable motherboard, though if not I'll switch to an i7 8700k with a new one. I won't be building on the server but might join space battles as a missile sponge.

If you're into mid-2000s girl mods, you'll love this mix of Chernobyl fallout, New Vegas, Dust, and Fallout 4 content. There are several solid free Half-Life or Half-Life 2 mods that run about an hour or two on Steam.
