Hey everyone, we’re looking for suggestions for PC games to use at our school’s online gaming event. We need them to fit these rules: every game must be for PC, completely free, and support custom match formats like 1v1, 2v2, or team play similar to what’s available in games like PUGB.
It seems like a gaming experience that blends esports elements with local server hosting. Games like PUGB and Minecraft don’t support this feature, and even older titles like Boulders Gate 2 once did. The concept feels nostalgic, almost retro, and offers a unique perspective from the player’s point of view.
“Host” can have a broader meaning depending on how you apply it. Previously, “host” referred to something running on our equipment.
These games include a mix of competitive formats like 3v3, 1v1, and team-based play. Many are improved with 2v2 options from other titles such as Hearthstone, Trackmania, and War Thunder. Some platforms like World of Warships/Tanks and others may offer custom matches. I’ve only tried a few, mostly focusing on Paladins, Fortnite, and a couple of others.
Everyone would understand it easily, yet they'd enjoy the challenge of learning.
