I believe quality is improving over time. The number of games I've made between 2011 and 2014 is higher than the ones from 2004 to 2008 or earlier.
The emphasis on visuals over gameplay reduced my enthusiasm for playing games for many years. Now I mainly grab a title to compare its performance instead of truly enjoying it, since most titles lack solid gameplay.
Publishers appear to be focusing more on creating games with high sales potential rather than those that showcase originality or creativity. Recent AAA titles suggest that aggressive marketing plays a bigger role in driving sales, which seems effective so far. The Watch Dogs case illustrates this trend, while Far Cry 4 and AC Unity continue to generate excitement. I’m increasingly turning to indie games, likely because they face fewer pressures to compromise their vision for publisher expectations. Over the years, I’ve noticed fewer games that truly resonate with me.
I understand your point. I still enjoy playing AAA titles, but lately they don’t feel particularly exciting or unique. Right now, nothing stands out as something I’m eager to try. There are some interesting upcoming releases, but none really capture my interest just yet.
