Perhaps it's because you're searching for games to play rather than just enjoying yourself. I enjoy DotA 2, WoW and Minecraft with friends, each has its own pros and cons, but I think most people wouldn't hesitate to try them if you have a lot of active friends around. On the flip side, I'm always up for trying new games when they release. However, it's uncommon for me to play any highly anticipated or AAA titles—most major publishers have been pretty consistent since the PlayStation 2 era. Over the past couple of years, I've had a wide range of experiences on PC, covering both solo and multiplayer games. This weekend I spent time playing Risk of Rain with three friends, we had a great time and played for hours. My take is, you might not be seeking fun in the right places.
I believe it’s important to discover engaging games. I’m a big fan of TF2 and it’s probably the only game I regularly play. When I do, I haven’t played much lately. The others didn’t capture my attention much. I watched several videos and added a bit to my collection, but they didn’t really hold my interest. Recently, I picked up two new titles, and I figured out why. Battlefield 4 offers expansive maps, while Spore mixes civilization elements with survival gameplay. At least that’s what I saw in the videos. The main reason I chose these games was because they offered something distinct compared to everything else I’ve seen. It took a lot of time to locate them among all the releases. I haven’t had much fun yet, but I think you should look for games with unique features. I’m confident it’ll keep you entertained. Make sure it matches your preferences.
I experience the same feeling—newly released titles over the past couple of years have become very dull, and they're getting worse. Batman Arkham City and Skyrim were the last games that really impressed me, though they had some shortcomings. Arkham Origin was good but missed a few aspects.
