Hello everyone. Has anyone played on the new Gamer OS for Jet? It's a Linux-based version of Steam OS that runs on Steam, and I've tested it on my current laptop—it works perfectly. But I'm curious if others have tried it on an older or different machine?

As a Linux gamer, I think the difference between distros isn't huge when it comes to gaming, so yeah.

You need to use the compatibility tool to install the game (Proton experimental). I have 230 games on Steam and can play most of them. However, I'm unsure if this OS is better since it's just Steam with no browser or anything like a console. It runs very fast.

Well, it doesn't stand out much. For a console feel, just purchase a console GUI; otherwise, it's just a regular Linux distribution.

I understand you're inquiring out of curiosity. This program works only on Steam, but it might perform better since most background tasks are handled there.

It seems there could be a little extra space available—just under 100MB, with perhaps a tiny bit more CPU capacity. Your Manjaro setup is running smoothly on just 950MB of RAM even when idle.

I don’t see any usage info since the OS lacks a desktop or usage monitor, making it hard to do anything but play. My Huawei D15 runs on AMD and shares RAM with the CPU, giving me more available memory which helps games run better.

Set up popOS or Mint with LFS (or any beginner-friendly distro). These "gaming" systems are similar to other distros that include Steam and PlayOnLinux. You'll gain more control with a standard distribution.

I already have the same laptop, so any Linux desktop isn't that demanding on memory. RAM usage for Linux distributions typically stays between 250-300 Mb with LXDE and goes up to over 1 Gb with Gnome, though I'm pretty sure that extra 1 Gb won't really help much in games—you'll probably be limited more by your graphics card first.
