I recently purchased MW2 and can run the campaign smoothly at 100fps on high settings without any problems. However, multiplayer feels sluggish, like playing on a chrome book. I’ve checked various game settings in the game and haven’t found a fix yet. Additionally, my PC doesn’t support other cod games unless they’re campaigns. I know it’s not the internet issue because I can play Warzone on my PS5 with 40ms and even tried the beta without issues. What should I do? Should I upgrade my PC?
Your latency keeps fluctuating but stays below 65 ms, while CPU and GPU usage surge to around 50 ms. In multiplayer, you consistently achieve 60 fps or less regardless of texture settings. DLSS doesn't improve anything.
It seems like the game runs at a low frame rate consistently.
I've experienced significant ping problems in certain games today with my friend. Typically I'm around 50 pings, but when I began teleporting it became unplayable and my ping spiked to about 70ms. Textures don't greatly impact performance. High settings demand a lot of VRAM, yet your RTX 2070 should handle it fine. You're likely playing at 1080p or 1440p, so your system should be adequate. I'll share your current settings and check if adjustments improve frame rates (optimized for FPS, not visuals).
Spoiler: If this helps and you want sharper visuals, consider boosting Ambient Occlusion, Shadows, and tesselation. Restarting Shader Optimization and then launching the game might also resolve some issues.
I applied these configurations and experienced a 74% bottleneck on my CPU. I don’t have an idea of the in-game benchmark quality, but this performance is typical for cod multiplayer or zombie modes. The campaign runs smoothly.
The campaign CPU and CPU-only components increase by just 1ms each at once.
I didn't realize there was a benchmark in the game... this is my score using my settings at 1440p with background tasks running. I verified the game relies heavily on CPU with a 3000 series Ryzen. On my 3060ti I achieved up to 90% GPU usage during the test. When playing multiplayer, I set FPS lock at 120FPS, so my GPU stays around 35% to 45% and I maintain smooth 120FPS play. Except in Invasion, the CPU becomes more limiting and FPS drops to about 100FPS intermittently. That said, my PC has the same CPU generation as yours, except it has 12 cores, which probably isn't a major factor in games. Since the game doesn't fully utilize my GPU, your setup should be more than adequate. The problem likely lies elsewhere—perhaps a GPU driver issue. I'm aware the latest NVIDIA driver has issues with MWII, but the main concern is noticeable flickering rather than performance drops. I'd suggest uninstalling all GPU drivers with DDU and reinstalling an older one, then run the Shader Cache Optimization again. This should fix any stuttering. But I see you're using a slightly older driver than me, which shouldn't be too problematic. Still, it's worth trying a reinstall anyway. Edit: Do you have 2x8GB RAM or 1x16GB RAM?
I own two 8GB RAM modules. I’ll attempt to remove them using ddu.
